Our Healthcare Pathways Academy Programs

Healthcare Pathways Academy is the overarching program that houses Club Scrubs, MASH Camp, High School Exploration Day, and more under the OU-TU School of Community Medicine.

MASH Camp
MASH Camp (Math and Science in Health Careers) is a week long camp during the summer for current high school students. Learn about health careers through a series of stimulating, hands-on learning activities in mathematics, science and multidisciplinary studies.
High School Exploration Day
Open to high school juniors and seniors considering a career in a healthcare profession, participants interact with current students, providing the opportunity to learn about different healthcare career options. The OU Colleges of Nursing, Medicine, Allied Health and Pharmacy participate.
Club Scrubs
Club Scrubs is a hands on, interactive club for High School students interested in exploring health careers. Meets twice monthly on Tuesdays via Zoom.

Tips for High School Students Interested in the Healthcare Industry:

In terms of general tips for those looking for pursue a career in the healthcare industry, we have compiled this list to give you the major things to focus on during high school.

Understand that training in the healthcare industry is not a quick and easy process and can be very challenging and lengthy for certain professions.
Realize that your studies right now are important, and plan your courses to focus on science and math.
Take every opportunity to improve your test taking skills.
Meet with your guidance counselor and talk to those currently working in healthcare.
Shadow or volunteer - many hospitals and clinics will require you to be 18 but check with family physicians or family friends in the healthcare field about possible shadowing opportunities. Don't be discouraged if you can't find shadowing opportunities while in high school as you will find many more opportunities once you are an undergraduate student.
Stay up to date on the medical field.

Our Team

Jabraan Pasha, MD, FACP Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Faculty Coordinator of Special Projects
Dr. Pasha oversees the School of Community medicine pipeline programs, Club Scrubs and MASH camp, and the medical student mentorship program. His other responsibilities include admissions, scholarship administration and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Angela Surratt, MHA Admissions, Recruitment, and Special Projects Coordinator
Angela serves as the Admissions, Recruitment and Special Projects Coordinator. Angela helps coordinate admissions activities and pipeline programs such as Club Scrubs and MASH Camp for high school students during the summer. In addition, Angela recruits prospective students for the School of Community Medicine and helps with the admissions process. Angela helps facilitate student led clubs, meetings, workshops, interview days and various events for high school students and current medical and physician assistant students for the OU-TU School of Community Medicine.
Meredith Talley, BA, MHR Director of Student Services and Admissions
Meredith serves as the Director of the Student Services office, managing the day to day operation of all aspects of student services, including outreach, recruitment, admissions, student activities, orientation, graduation, exam proctoring, current student support, and more. Meredith also serves as an advisor for the SCM Student Executive Council.
Catherine Beasley HPA Project Assistant
Responsible for support of recruitment and outreach services for the OU-TU School of Community Medicine in coordination with the Admissions, Recruitment and Special Projects Coordinator and Student Services staff. This position will focus on producing material and virtual resources for elementary, middle, high school and college pre-health professional students. This position will also support SCM pipeline and outreach programs through tracking, data entry and communication, and will work with existing staff on new outreach and recruitment to K-12 Oklahoma schools and regional colleges and universities.
Samuel Alvarado HPA Project Assistant
